CURRICULUM

PRESCHOOL
Nurturing and academic development begins in our Nursery, Kinder and Preparatory classes. Students are encouraged to explore newly discovered ideas. In a warm, supportive environment, the children receive the individual attention they need as they learn through play and real life experiences. Phonics and counting skills are taught, along with key sight words to help students transition into the rest of Key Stage 1.
In the British Curriculum, the foundation year (here at BEIS, the Preparatory year) is considered Year 1. This is the first stage of formal education with a rigorous academic program.
Key Stage 1 is focused on basic literacy and numeracy, and developing critical thinking skills. Key Stage 1 ends at the completion of Year 2, or Grade 1 at BEIS.

PRIMARY SCHOOL
Learning in the Primary School focuses on a solid foundation of basic skills plus various units of inquiry. Through these themes, links within the different subject areas are set, enabling students to learn from practical applications in a fun and engaging way. We also teach Kulturang Pilipino (Philippines culture) classes, which focuses on both the cultural heritage of the Philippines, bringing greater understanding to their time in Boracay. Providing applied educational experiences in the primary school will allow our students to develop into life-long learners.
Key Stage 2 is defined as the period beginning at the same time as the school year in which the majority of pupils in a class attain the age of eight and ending at the same time as the school year in which the majority of pupils in a class attain the age of eleven.
Students in Key Stage 2 study from the following areas:
  • English
  • Mathematics
  • Science
  • Information and Communication Technology
  • History & Geography
  • Art and Music
  • Physical Education
  • Kulturang Pilipino

SECONDARY SCHOOL
The Secondary Years of BEIS provide a time of transition for students in Grades 4 to 8. Our program provides a solid academic foundation in the core subjects, Maths, Literacy, the Sciences, and Fine Arts. Students are expected to work hard and to develop a strong sense of ownership over their academic growth. The foundation subjects are supplemented with continuing study of units of inquiry: student-driven research and project-based learning to instill the scientific process and presentation skills into the students' academic style. Students in the secondary level will be challenged to create projects and portfolios that will reflect their learning.
Key Stage 3 (commonly abbreviated as KS3) is the term for the three years of schooling normally known as Year 7, Year 8 and Year 9 (Grade 6, 7 & 8 at BEIS), when pupils are aged between 11 and 14.
Students in this stage focus their studies on:
  • English
  • Mathematics

  • Information and Communication Technology (ICT)

  • History & Geography
